Officer Christian Smith of the Jackson Police Department was the recipient of the Dave Cameron Memorial Scholarship for 2016. Sandy Cameron traveled from Pocatello Idaho to present the award to Officer Smith on February 17th, 2017 at the Jackson Police Department.

The scholarship was started by the Wyoming Highlanders Association in 2001 after former Chief of Police Dave Cameron was killed in a tragic accident. The idea behind the memorial fund was a hope that it would continue Chief Cameron's legacy of excellence in police service by helping law enforcement officers continue their college education.

Officer Smith will use the scholarship to help finish his criminal justice degree that he has been working on for the past couple of years. Officer Smith commented, "I am both appreciative and humbled that the Wyoming Highlanders and the Cameron family would help me to continue my education- thank you." (Officer Christian Smith).

Over the past 17 years the scholarship has been awarded to police officers and deputy sheriffs across the State of Wyoming and to graduating seniors of the Jackson Hole High School who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Some notable prior recipients of the award have been, Sergeant Michelle Weber of the JPD, Sergeant Trevor Aitken of the JPD, and Lt. Alyssa Watkins (formerly of the TCSO).
