Value Jackson Award - Shawn Stephens

Congratulations to this month's recipient of the Values Jackson Award - Shawn Stephens with the Jackson Police Department.

Shawn was nominated by Lea Colasuonno.

"The Town has numerous values – all of which are important to make this a collegial, professional, supportive working environment where we all thrive.

I am lucky enough to work with lots of departments and lots of staff members because legal issues arise in all kinds of ways in all the departments. As the prosecutor I get to work closely with the police and, particularly, with the investigations folks.

I nominated Shawn Stephens for the Rock this month because he exemplifies the values of:

• Openness (always a willing ear for an issue or idea)

• Innovation (IT is always trying new, different, better ways to make our government efficient and effective)

• Respect (he treats everyone with it)

• Professionalism (never in short supply in conversation in and out of work), and

• “It’s my job. It’s our job” (ever quick to volunteer to help on any range of random tasks I need help with).

The most recent examples of these include his work on Zuercher, his weekly help with Court on Wednesday’s, his quick help on short notice with my interminable questions on all things police, his help with my new laptop – to which I say thank you to entire IT department – and his insightful, thoughtful help getting information, video, and a balanced perspective on many complicated cases we process for the community.

In short, the Town as an institution is a better workplace for having him and the community is served at the highest caliber by his participation here."

Congratulations Shawn. Well deserved. Thank you for all of the contributions and sacrifices that you make to make our community great!
