Update on Charter Issue in Jackson & Opportunity for Public Comment

On March 15, 2018 Jackson joined the City of Yuma, Arizona and El Centro, California in signing a petition as a result of of violations by Charter entities of Federal Communications Commission rules governing the customer service practices of cable operators.

Charter has twenty (20) days from service of complaint to file a response. Charter's response can be expected no later than Thursday, April 5, 2018.

OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT TO THE FCC
Cable special relief petitions do allow public comment but do prescribe some steps for filing:

*Comments are permitted withing the 20-days of public notice of the proceedings. The proceeding has not been noticed yet. We expect public notice soon. Members of the public who wish to comment are safe filing something on or before April 5, 2018. The public notice should have a docket number that should be used in making a file. In addition:

1. The filing should be submitted to the Commission via the electronic comment filing system. That system is available at https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings

2. Comments that contain statements of fact (for example: "Here's what happened to me") should be supported by an affidavit. The specific rule is that comments shall contain a detailed full showing, supported by affidavit, of any facts or considerations relied on.

3. "Comments or oppositions shall be served on the petitioner and on all persons listed in the petitioner's certificate of service..." The petitioner here is the Town, and the certificate of service (and the Town's filing) can be downloaded from https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filing/103162896211133
